What Gas Logs are Right for you!
Are you in the market for a gas log set to cozy up to during the chillier months? Housewarmings Fireplace experts have got you covered! Knowing what to consider when choosing a gas log set is extremely important, so here’s a few helpful pointers to help guide your decision.
Firstly, get familiar with what you have currently. What does your current fireplace look like? It’s also important to learn at this stage what log sets would be compatible with your set up. They will need to meet all installation requirements and be a perfect fit for your firebox.
Determine the size you need…
To ensure that your gas long set performs at its best capability, you must determine the size that is best for your space. This must be the first consideration in your research to make sure your log set can vent properly to avoid gas emissions or poor performance.
For determining the correct size, it is important to measure your firebox accurately using the following steps:
Measure the width across the front of the firebox
Measure the width across the back of the firebox
Measure the depth of the firebox from front to back
Measure the height of the firebox opening
When measuring you should allot for your log set to be centered from left to right inside the firebox, with the same amount of clearance on either side.
There are different types of burner configurations that may affect the size of the gas logs they come with. Electric Ignition gas logs cover more space in a log set because of additional pieces that may be included on the burner pan. This differs from a Match-lit Ignition as they are more standard and take up less space because of less components.
Vented versus Ventless…
There are two types of gas log sets, Ventless and Vented. It is key to know what kind of fireplace you have as it will determine which logs would work for your setup. Vented gas logs can only be installed in an approved fireplace opening with a working chimney, while Ventless gas logs don’t require a chimney and can be used in an existing fireplace with the flue closed.
If you have a Direct Vent fireplace with sealed front glass panels, you will need to contact the manufacturer of your fireplace directly to see if there are other burning media options. Direct Vent Fireplaces require original manufacturer’s logs and other media to be used.
Professional Installation…
Before moving forward with installation, it is extremely important to be educated on the Installation or Owner’s Manual for your gas logs. This will include crucial details from the manufacturer that are necessary to know before beginning any installation process.
We do not encourage self-installation. If the installer is not certified or does not have enough experience and knowledge about the process, it could cause an array of issues.
At Housewarmings, we have a team of expert installers who are trained to be safe and efficient. We recommend setting up an installation with our team or finding another licensed professional local to you to get the job done.
